Welcome to Ideal Choice Homes, Lancaster City Council's new way of allocating council accommodation in the district.
The scheme also includes rented accommodation from Registered Providers of Social Housing (Housing Association), private rented accommodation, and shared ownership properties for sale.
We aim to give you more choice in deciding where you want to live. Properties that are available will be advertised each week. A new list of properties will be available every Wednesday morning showing our current vacancies.
You must then tell us which properties you are interested in. This process is known as bidding. You may only bid for a property if your application has been accepted onto our housing register. Each weekly advertising cycle begins on a Wednesday, and you have until the following Monday to place your bids.

Please note, the Lancaster City Council Housing Allocation Policy changed from October 2012.
From April 2013 the Government are introducing new rules about the size of property that you need. For housing benefit claimants, if you are seen to be living in a property which is too big for your needs your housing benefit will be reduced.
The Housing Allocation Policy was updated so that the criteria used by the Council to assess how many bedrooms your household requires, is the same as the criteria used by housing benefits when calculating how much benefit claimants are entitled to.
For more information about how we assess what size of property your household requires, see the Frequently Asked Questions page. You may also be interested in the summary version of the Housing Allocation Policy.
Lancaster City Council has a legal duty to protect the money it administers. As part of this duty the council is taking part in the National Fraud Initiative, a nationwide drive to reduce the amount of public money lost each year due to fraud. As a result, information you provide on your application form may be shared with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds. For further information, see the council's website at www.lancaster.gov.uk/nfi, contact Customer Services on 01524 582000, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note, if you bid for a property that is owned by one of the Ideal Choice Homes scheme partners, we will share any relevant information regarding your application with them. You can ask for a copy of all the information held about you for which the data Protection Act applies. Any requests should be made in writing to Health and Housing Services at Lancaster City Council.
